Red Car pays tribute to the Pacific Electric, Los Angeles’s once ubiquitous public transportation system. Red Car is located close to the original terminal station of the Pacific Electric San Fernando line. Pacific Electric played a vital but often-forgotten role in the development of Los Angeles before the era of the automobile. Suspended in front of a parking garage in the form of a unassembled model kit, the sculpture is a playful reminder of Los Angeles’s relationship with transportation.
